Self and Society

This cluster offers students an interdisciplinary foundation in anthropology, psychology, and statistics, focusing on human behavior and physiology. You will gain a well-rounded perspective on the complexities of human society and mind. You will fulfill requirements for the Psychology major and others, while also fulfilling the Social & Behavioral Sciences breadth and American Cultures requirement. 

Course Descriptions

  • ANTHRO 3AC: Introduction to Social/Cultural Anthropology (American Cultures), 4 Units
    The structure and dynamics of human cultures and social institutions from a comparative perspective with special attention to American cultures and their roots. Case studies will illustrate the principles presented in the course. It fulfills the requirements for 3.

  • PSYCH 1: General Psychology, 3 Units
    Introduction to the principal areas, problems, and concepts of psychology. This course is required for the major.

  • STAT 2: Introduction to Statistics, 4 Units
    Population and variables. Standard measures of location, spread and association. Normal approximation. Regression. Probability and sampling. Interval estimation. Some standard significance tests.
